Chris ‘Bobo” Newell first became involved with Ukandu upon the recommendation of his lifelong friend (and Ukandu Board Member and Volunteer!) Rob ‘Shrek’ Grassmyer. Rob told Chris ‘he would not regret it!’ and boy, was he right!

Bobo volunteered at the next event, Ukandu Wine & Dine which introduced him to Ukandu’s mission and volunteer community. Just a few months later, Bobo took the leap and spent a full week at Ukandu Family Camp at the Oregon Coast!

While at camp you could find Bobo doing everything from setting up for programs and events to jamming out on the guitar on stage during campfire. He really could do it all and his hard work made an impact not only on our campers but also on the quality of camp as a whole.

“I have had nothing but a positive experience. Challenging and demanding, meaningful, loving, and kind. I feel like I found my family. I have such great respect for everyone I have met so far. Everyone has inspired me to step into my better self. And honestly, it just feels really good to be with you all and to be doing this work. It's meaningful and it has an impact on people's lives,” says Bobo.

Since Camp, Bobo has thrown himself into the Ukandu community. He’s attended fundraisers and volunteer events, helped set up for the Ukandu Family Reunion, and is pretty much anywhere Ukandu is! We are so thankful to have Bobo as a part of our Ukandu community and appreciate everything he does as a volunteer!
