Hillary, better known as Flip Flop, first was introduced to Ukandu in 1995 when she attended Camp Ukandu with her younger sister.

“I had just turned 13 and got dropped off in a giant field of chaos where I did not know a single person.  I wanted to go home right then. It became clear my parents were not coming back to get me. I was in a cabin of other girls who were siblings and we could freely share our own stories and hear "I felt the same way"!  I was a young adult when I could reflect on how therapeutic it was to be able to connect with other siblings in such a fun, safe space.” -  Flip Flop

In 2003, Flip Flop attended Camp Ukandu as a Counselor in Training and began her volunteer journey with Ukandu. Over the last twenty years, she has held just about every position Ukandu has to offer from counselor to leadership time member and even Camp Director!

"Flip flop brings her heart and soul to her volunteer work with Ukandu. She has worn many hats over the years, from camper all the way to Camp Director. Through every one of those roles, she serves with passion, love, and a whole lot of grit. But one of the greatest things about Flip Flop is how she embodies one of Ukandu's core values - "Leadership can and must come from everyone". It doesn't matter if she is serving a snack or leading a program, she does it with a servant's heart and she models for us all how to show up even better the next time." - Ukandu Program Director, Robin Emerick

We are so thankful to have Flip Flop as a part of our Ukandu Family!
