Volunteer with UKANDU

UKANDU is, first and foremost, a volunteer-driven organization. We're so grateful for the hundreds of volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to providing families impacted by childhood and adolescent cancer hope, joy, and connection.

25% of UKANDU volunteers are former participants. 33% of UKANDU volunteers have volunteered for more than 15 years.

At UKANDU, we believe it is a privilege to serve. Over three decades of recruiting and training volunteers, we have learned a commitment to this ethos is central to our success. Our volunteers take time away from work, from family, and from vacation and often experience physical and emotional exhaustion. Why do they do this? Because no matter what effort they put forward, they know they will receive much more in return for their service.

UKANDU program participants are children and families with unique needs and they are worthy of our very best efforts. Each volunteer is carefully selected for their personal character, high ideals, integrity, responsibility, and special skills which offer our campers the quality of leadership we hope campers will someday emulate. As a result, volunteers will model strength, self-efficacy, and healthy interpersonal relationships. Our programs aim to promote emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual growth.

Joining the UKANDU volunteer corps requires a special set of skills. Our volunteers establish a program’s tone and tempo while ensuring the quality of the program. Great volunteers must lead and learn daily. These are not merely hopeful concepts; these are significant challenges. To successfully meet the tremendous opportunities posed by these challenges, volunteers must work together to continually develop our skills.
