Welcoming a familiar face! Dr. Jason Glover becomes UKANDU’s Medical Director.

At UKANDU, we often boast that we offer the largest and longest-running medically-supported programs in Oregon. We can do this, only because we benefit from the commitment and expertise of an amazing group of medical professionals. Carrying on that tradition, we are thrilled to announce that Dr. Jason “Pond Scum” Glover is UKANDU’s new Medical Director! While pursuing his formal education across the country, Dr. Glover volunteered at four other summer camps before first joining Camp UKANDU in 2008. He brings more than 20 years of camp experience and has spent the last three years serving as a member of UKANDU’s Medical Committee.

Dr. Glover follows the proud footsteps of Dr. Sue “Guppy” Lindemulder, who served UKANDU for more than a decade. Under the faithful leadership of Dr. Lindemulder, UKANDU revised our medical Policies and Procedures in 2018. This foresight and planning established a set of protocols that helped us meet the challenges of the global pandemic and safely return to in-person programming in 2022. Like others before her, dating all the way back to Dr. Neerhout, who served as our first medical director in 1986, UKANDU has always enjoyed the support of local medical professionals. This dedication is critical to our success, and we want to take this opportunity to thank them all for their tireless energy and commitment the families whom, together, we have served for almost 40 years.

Building on this history and strong foundation, and in recognition of the busy lives of our medical volunteers, UKANDU is expanding the Medical Committee. In consultation with our medical partners and other organizations, we have established a new structure that brings additional perspectives to the team that provides medical guidance to UKANDU. Reflecting a broad range of voices, this committee will be comprised of physicians, nurses and mental healthcare providers, all with expertise in pediatric cancer. Six professionals from Doernbecher and Randall’s Children’s hospitals will meet regularly to review and advise our staff and Board of Directors as UKANDU continues to grow. With the robust support of the medical community, UKANDU remains unwavering in our commitment to the health and safety of all our participants.

Joining Dr. Glover on our committee, thus far, are Registered Nurses Katie “Buttercup” Allender and Lauren “Disco” Cheema, along with Natalie “Puddles” Monk, LCSW. Go Team!
